Picking apples with the family in the orchard. Photos taken by the author Gabriela Trofin-Tatár

“Autumn poses the question we all have to live with: How to hold on to the things we love even though we know that we and they are dying. How to see the world as it is, yet find light within that truth.”
― Pico Iyer, Autumn Light: Season of Fire and Farewells

Last night, while I was reading about autumn change and how it influences our mood, I came across Pico Iyer’s quote about autumn and couldn't stop thinking about its meaning.

It took me back to some weeks ago, to an experience that beautifully illustrates the delicate balance of love, loss, and the pursuit of light in our lives.

At the beginning of October, we went apple picking to a nearby orchard, the kind of place where we pick our apples and pay for what we picked, per kilogram.
