“Life is what we make of it. Travel is the traveler. What we see isn’t what we see but what we are.”
― Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet
Our little family excursion to Praia de São Sebastião in Ericeira turned out to be an adventure full of both breathtaking scenery and a hilarious disaster.
The Beach at São Sebastião
São Sebastião is Portuguese for “Saint Sebastian”.
Despite its central position, this beach is a hidden gem with barely any people around, making it ideal for a family outing.

We had to be careful, however. This was an unguarded beach, with no lifeguards and no facilities.
A soft breeze began to pick up as we approached the stairs leading down to the shore. It was incredible to think that the enormous Atlantic stretched out before us.
